FOR DAYCARES AND SCHOOLS
Food nourishes at every stage in a child’s life: from infancy to school age and teenage years. One of the key components that are necessary to ensure a lifetime of health, vitality and energy for children is the quality of food they eat. Through carefully-made food choices, parents and caregivers will help ensure the physical nourishment of growing bodies. Good eating habits established in the early years helps to establish a foundation of good nutrition and healthy lifestyle habits later in life. It can also reduce the risks of obesity, heart disease, diabetes and other chronic diseases later in life. These diseases unfortunately are being seen in children more and more around the globe. Many researchers believe we are witnessing the first generation of children ever that will have a lower life expectancy than that of their parents.
Children and teens today are growing up in an environment filled with fast food, soft drinks and gigantic portion sizes. Disease prevention should start in childhood.
Susceptibility to illness and infection, behavior, physical activity, performance in school or daycare, and mood are also affected by diet. Parents really can make a difference and have a responsibility to do so.
